About Course

In this updated version of our ever-popular game design course, students will plan, configure, and design a retro-style video game with Bloxels. The Bloxels platform is simple enough for younger students (no coding skills are required), but powerful enough to keep older students interested and engaged. Students control every aspect of their game, from story, to layout, to pixel-art design. And best of all, students will be proud to share their game creations with family and friends at the end of camp!

What Will You Learn?

  • How to map out and plan a fun retro-style video game.
  • How to configure your game's characters, enemies, bosses, and overall story.
  • How to design every element of your game using pixel art and pixel animation.
  • How to share your game with the world in the Bloxels Arcade.

Course Content

INSTRUCTOR BRIEFING
This section is designed to get instructors up to speed on the credentials they'll need for the camp, lesson plans and camp objectives, and tips to make running the camp easier. Lesson 5 of this section introduces instructors to the Bloxels Hub where the class for this camp is created and managed.

MONDAY – GETTING STARTED
In this section, students will learn the ground rules of Bloxels camp. They'll receive Bloxels credentials, log in, and learn about the 8 block types that make up Bloxels.

TUESDAY – BLOCK CONFIGURATION
In this section, students will learn to configure various blocks in Bloxels.

WEDNESDAY – BLOCK DESIGN
In this section, students will learn to design various blocks in Bloxels.

THURSDAY – SHARING GAMES IN THE BLOXELS ARCADE
In this section, students will learn how to share their games in the Bloxels Arcade.

FRIDAY – BLOXELS WRAP UP
In this section, students will continue to build and share games. Instructors will focus on retrieving URLs for the student's games to share with the parents.
