About Course

Welcome to the LEGO Robot Olympics! In this course, students will create and program their robots to complete a series of sports-related challenges. Teams will use various motors and sensors to create robots for basketball, hockey, a tug-of-war, and sumo wrestling. The course will require a combination of creativity, persistence, and technical expertise to create robot champions!

  • How to create and download programs from the Microsoft MakeCode for Mindstorms website.
  • How to utilize input from LEGO EV3 robotics sensors
  • How to create output from LEGO EV3 robotics motors
  • How to create and program custom robots to complete a series of challenges.

Course Content

INSTRUCTOR BRIEFING
This section is designed to get instructors up to speed on the camp materials. Instructors will learn about the components of the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotics Kits and how to create and download programs from the Microsoft MakeCode for Mindstorms website.

MONDAY – GETTING STARTED
In this section, students will begin their base robot build and will learn how to download a simple program to make their robot move in a square.

TUESDAY – ROBOT BASKETBALL
In this section, students will customize their robots to play "basketball" i.e., by shooting a ball into a goal.

WEDNESDAY – ROBOT HOCKEY
In this section, the students' robots will be reconfigured to shoot a puck into a goal in the robot hockey challenge.

THURSDAY – ROBOT TUG-OF-WAR
In this section, students will design and program their robots to compete in a tug-of-war challenge.

FRIDAY – ROBOT SUMO WRESTING
In this section, students will use robotic sensors to create and program a robot to compete in sumo wrestling.
