About Course

Magnets: How do they work? What’s in fizzy tabs that makes them fizz? Why do toy cars eventually slow down and come to a stop? The answer: Physics! Campers will tackle some daunting challenges by performing hands-on experiments and tracking data to extrapolate the info they need to form their own answers. Learn about kinetic and potential energies and how they interact with our natural world to make some pretty spectacular things happen. Check out “Phenomenal Physics” to see why Newton is way more than just the guy who watched an apple fall off a tree.

What Will You Learn?

  • Students will learn the science behind structures, magnets, sound, and motion.
  • Students will build physics contraptions.
  • Students will use voice pipes to study the science of sound
  • Students will build and test various iterations of straw rockets

INSTRUCTOR BRIEFING
This section is designed to get instructors up to speed on the camp materials and daily workflow.

  • Lesson 01: Camp Overview and Schedule
  • Lesson 02: Instructor Overview and Learning Objectives
  • Lesson 03: Instructor Course Tips
  • Lesson 04: Instructor Overview

MONDAY – PHYSICS OF STRUCTURES
In today's lesson, campers will begin to learn the physics of structures. Campers will explore different 3D shapes and will see what makes some structures stronger than others.

TUESDAY – PHYSICS OF MAGNETS
In today's lessons, campers will learn the physics of magnets. They'll then tackle the magnetic maze challenge.

WEDNESDAY – PHYSICS OF SOUND
In today's lesson, campers will learn about the physics of sound and will use a sound pipe in a series of games and challenges.

THURSDAY – PHYSICS OF MOTION – STRAW ROCKETS PART 1
In today's lesson, campers will build and test their first straw rockets. They'll have several fin designs to choose from, and their job is to construct the best rocket.

FRIDAY – PHYSICS OF MOTION – STRAW ROCKETS PART 2
In today's lesson, campers will take what they've learned and put their straw rockets to the test in a series of challenges.
