About Course

Ahoy, mateys! Climb aboard as we embark on some Pirate Adventures! Cast off into the seven seas and work together to navigate the treacherous depths, engaging in STEM-focused experiments, hands-on design trials, and stimulating group discussions. Each merry misfit will work together with the rest of their crew to accomplish challenging tasks like forging catapults, designing buoyant boats, and fashioning accurate maps that lead to hidden treasure. In Pirate Adventures, action, fun, and discovery await just beyond the horizon!

What Will You Learn?

  • Students will learn about the parts of a ship and a ship's various crew positions.
  • Students will learn about buoyancy and why heavy ships float
  • Students will learn about cardinal directions as they draw and decipher treasure maps
  • Students will learn how to engineer strong ships to protect them from attack

MONDAY – PARTS OF A SHIP, CREW POSITIONS, AND PIRATE NAMES
In today's lesson, campers will learn the parts of a ship, choose crew positions, and select their own pirate names. The day will culminate in a pirate ship build with the BrickLab LEGO-style bricks.

TUESDAY – BUOYANCY – SINK OR FLOAT
In today's lessons, campers will learn about buoyancy and will craft clay boats and BrickLab "Tippy Rafts" which float on water.

WEDNESDAY – TREASURE MAPS AND TREASURE HUNTS
In today's lesson, campers will learn about cardinal directions and will use listening and communication skills to create treasure maps and guide fellow campers to buried treasure.

THURSDAY – UNDER SIEGE – CATAPULTS VERSUS PIRATE SHIPS
In today's lessons, campers will use the catapults to attack pirate ships they built with BrickLab LEGO-style bricks.

FRIDAY – PIRATE SONGS AND GAMES
In today's lesson, campers will end the week with pirate songs, pirate games and an open-ended pirate-themed build with the BrickLab LEGO-style bricks.
